Orion: all eyes on MJC

Following last week's meeting between the country's four halal issuing authorities to root out malpractice in the industry, all eyes are now on the Muslim Judicial Council (MJC) who has yet to take a decision on whether it would certify halal imports for Orion Cold Storage. Following revelations last month that imported products, such as pig hearts, had been relabeled as halal at its Cape Town premises, the company laid the blame on saboteurs, but stated that it would meet whatever criteria was set in order to secure halal renewed certification.

More foreign nikah abuse

Since VOC broadcast a feature on local women marrying foreigners two weeks ago, another seven cases of women who were caught in dire straights after marrying foreign men was reported to the Civil Protection Service Centre (CPSC) in Gatesville. According to Imam Ismail Esack of the CPSC, six cases of local Muslim women - some of whom had been either defrauded and abused or taken abroad and not allowed to come home - had been reported to the CPSC in November after a similar awareness program on VOC.

Anger over TopTV porn

Some Christian organisations plan to boycott TopTV after it announced it would launch 24-hour pornography channels next year, said the Family Policy Institute on Tuesday. "The Christian denominations and church affiliations support the view that the broadcasting of hardcore pornography on television degrades and objectifies women and exposes children to harmful content," said the institute's director Errol Naidoo.

Unwarranted Attack on Claremont Main Road Mosque

It is with grave concern that we have to bring to your attention a serious verbal attack on CMRM made during the jumuah pre-khutbah lecture by Shaykh Sulayman Abdullah Salaamah at Masjidus Sunni, Kromboom Mosque, on Friday 9 December 2011. Amongst other things, the Shaykh alleged that CMRM rejects all ahadith, that its congregants are 'soldiers of shaytaan' and that CMRM must be destroyed.

The allegations against CMRM amounts to hate speech and incitement to violence. Consequently, a letter from the CMRM Board was hand delivered on Sunday 11 December 2011 to the Chairperson of the Kromboom Mosque Committee.

Every Muslim must be a cop to save the doenya

AL JAMA-AH Councillor A. Norbhai represented the City of Johannesburg at the COP 17 Climate change conference of the United Nations in Durban. The Party witnessed the signing of the historic acord overseen by President Zuma and “Madiba Magic” which rubbed off on the Ministers and Councillors working behind the scenes. It is still a challenge to reduce the climate changes to under 2% per year. Every Muslim must play their part to save the doenya for future generations, insha Allah.
