You Are Very Special ('11 Remix) - Zain Bhikha

Published by Zain Bhikha on Thursday, 24 November 2011

I had a wonderful opportunity to re-record an old classic song called "You Are Very Special". Originally released 15 years ago, I revisited this song with my old friend and producer, Craig Marais who's new melody is groundbreaking and amazingly emotional. To make it more "special", I invited FaceBook Fans to send pictures of their loved ones to make a unique home video featuring faces from around the world. This video is the result of that and I sincerely hope and pray that you are as inspired by this as I am. You can also download this song free of charge at www.zainbhikha.com or www.soundcloud.com/zainbhikha

    Entertainment still a dilemma

Published by Voice of the Cape on Tuesday, 4 October 2011
The dilemma of finding the "right" kind of entertainment that would be in keeping with VOC's Islamic ethos, whilst keeping the audiences glued remains a work in progress. While most festival goers were happy with the entertainment at this year's festival which sought to balance nasheed and qasidah with popular music that VOC does not play on air, it remains a thorny issue for festival organisers.

"Annually we tear our hair out in dealing with this. We wanted to keep the Friday evening for nasheed this year by drawing a big name like Zain Bhikha. But besides the logistics of getting him here, 80% of our team felt that it would just not succeed in drawing the crowd. While Zain is a fantastic artist who is well liked on air, we could not be sure that as many could relate to him on stage, given what our people had been used to at the festival on a Friday evening," Goolam Fakier who handled the entertainment portfolio this year, explained on Open Lines on Monday.
