Voice of the Cape Hajj 2010 Nomination

Event Date: Wednesday, 14 April 2010 to Friday, 30 April 2010

The Hajj, or pilgrimage to Mecca, is one of the five pillars of Islam. It is prescribed for a Muslim person to perform Hajj at least once in a lifetime when he/she is able to make the journey. Hajj is one of the world's great religious rites. With the tough economic situation, many Muslims in South Africa may never achieve this realization .

It is the objective of the VOC to search for a deserving member of the community that will become eligible for Hajj 2010. The Voice of the Cape, together with the assistance of the Al Anwar Hajj & Umrah Group, will provide the candidate with the full accommodation and all travel arrangements for Hajj 2010 – conditions apply.

CRITERIA FOR CANDIDATES

  1. South African citizen with a valid passport
  2. Muslim(s) undertaking first Hajj (Fard Hajj)
  3. Candidates must be 40 yrs and older
  4. Muslim that are medically fit to travel
  5. Muslim that are community orientated (community involvement)
  6. Muslim that has a reasonable understanding of the implementation of the rituals and obligations of Hajj

NOMINATION PROCESS

  1. Nomination(s) will be accepted from individuals/organizations (where applicable, attach copies of testimonials of the person that you nominate to perform the Hajj 2010). Only nominations on the official form will be considered.
  2. All nominations will be treated in confidence.
  3. Completed nomination forms are due by 5:00 p.m. on Friday 30th April 2010.
  4. There will be NO EXCEPTIONS to the nomination deadline.
  5. Submitting a completed nomination form does not automatically guarantee that the candidate has been successful in securing a Hajj sponsorship. The successful candidate will be informed at a later date.
  6. Candidates will be short-listed. If you have not been contacted by the 15 th May 2010, then your nomination has not been successful.
  7. All nomination forms, including the motivational letter(s) are to be submitted in a sealed envelope to: The VOC 2010 Hajj Committee c/o The Voice of the Cape Radio Station, No. 2 Queens Park Avenue, SALT RIVER on, or before the due date.
