Wrangle between stations over a commercial licence yawns wider

Published by kabelonplugged on Wednesday, 5 October 2011

Following a successful run of Ramadaan broadcast, listeners of KZN’s only Islamic station Radio Al Ansaar, can look forward to another feast of activities and exciting programmes in the Hajj broadcast in just over three weeks.

However the station is currently embroiled in a wrangle and its 103 fm frequency facing a threat of being snatched up by other competitors vying for the commercial licence. Al-Ansaar Foundation and radio CEO Asiya Amod says given their credentials and longevity as a special events broadcaster, they are hopeful that Icasa will grant the station a commercial licence.
