Outrage over grave desecration
The Media Review Network (MRN), the Muslim Judicial Council (MJC) and theAl-Quds Foundation South Africa has forwarded a letter to the Department of International Relations and Co-Operation (Dirco) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to express their dismay at the desecration of gravesites in Palestine by the Israeli government.
"We have learnt that the Zionist occupiers now plan to exhume 1,000 graves from the cemetery of Ma'man Allah. We once again repeat our call to our government and to the United Nations to place on record their strong objections of this act of intolerance by the Israeli Zionist authorities in Jerusalem," said MRN senior researcher, Ibrahim Vawda.

PRESS RELEASE - Desecration of Holy Sites in Jerusalem

The Media Review Network (MRN), the Muslim Judicial Council (MJC) and the Al-Quds Foundation South Africa addressed a letter expressing our dismay at the desecration of gravesites in Palestine by the Zionist Government in Jerusalem.

We have learnt that the Zionist occupiers now plan to exhume 1000 graves from the cemetery of Ma'man Allah.

We once again repeat our call to our government and to the United Nations to place on record their strong objections of this act of intolerance by the Israeli Zionist authorities in Jerusalem.

It is ironic that the museum which the Zionist government intends building on this site will be called The Museum of ‘Tolerance'.

Africa 1 Aid Convoy returns with heightened commitment towards next mission

The Muslim Judicial Council and Al-Quds Foundation South Africa would like to convey a message of shukr, salaam and love from the Palestinian people to the families of South Africa for their love and contribution in kind and prayers towards breaking the siege on Gaza.  It is through global Islamic unity that they take strength and the strong bond of Islam and love that they experience coming from the tip of Africa.

Next A1A convoy ready
Less than a month after the successful conclusion of the Africa 1 Aid humanitarian convoy which took over R10 million in aid to Gaza, mainly from South Africa, the next South African convoy will be returning to the besieged region with 10 -15 activists. According to Moulana Igsaan Hendricks, who spearheaded the convoy on behalf of the Muslim Judicial Council and the Al-Quds Foundation South Africa, the latest convoy will be ready to depart on October 6.

'SA govt failed A1A'
Although the Charge d'Affaires of the SA Embassy in Cairo, Selaelo (Selly) Ramokgopa, had won high praise for her efforts to ensure the success of the Africa 1 Aid convoy which returned home last week, convoy leader, Moulana Igsaan Hendricks had strong criticism for what he described as a lacklustre performance by the SA government. Reporting back on Monday night on VOC after the succesful conclusion of the humanitarian mission to Gaza, the president of the Muslim Judicial Council and director of Al-Quds Foundation South Africa said the poor performance particularly by the Department of International Relations and Co-operation (Dirco) was "unacceptable".

Flotilla II's departure time set
International activists are to reach Gaza next year under the banner of Freedom Flotilla II after a first such fleet came under a deadly Israeli attack.  The seaborne convoy is to sail to the beleaguered coastal sliver in spring 2011, carrying humanitarian and medical supplies, the Palestinian-run International Middle East Media Center reported on Tuesday.

EU ready to recognize Palestine
The European Union says it is prepared to recognize a Palestinian state in the wake of a groundswell of international support for the Palestinians.
 
In a statement issued on Monday, the EU Foreign Affairs Council said it "reiterates its readiness, when appropriate, to recognize a Palestinian state," wrote the Israeli newspaper Ha'aretz. The EU also said such a state had to be "contiguous and viable." Brazil and Argentina recently recognized Palestine, and Uruguay and France have pledged that they will follow suit. However, Israel continues to construct and expand illegal Jewish settler units on the Palestinian territories of the West Bank and East al-Quds (Jerusalem). Tel Aviv occupied the territories in 1967. Israel refused to extend a partial freeze on settlement activities in late September, thus stalling the direct talks with the Palestinian Authority (PA) that had resumed earlier that month. The Palestinians say that the settlement construction activities are being carried out to prevent the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. The EU foreign ministers, who were meeting in Brussels, "noted with regret" Tel Aviv's failure to prolong the moratorium. Israel, Greece talking military co-op
Israel is holding talks with Greece on the creation of a new Mediterranean military alliance, following the breakup of Tel Aviv's strategic partnership with Ankara. Israeli military officials have reportedly traveled to the Greek capital, Athens, to discuss the new alliance. Reports say the delegation could also discuss a possible multi-million-dollar arms sale -- including weapons systems for the Hellenic Air Force's F-16 fleet, according to the Jerusalem Post. Tel Aviv's efforts to forge new military alliances come after Ankara cut off its military and diplomatic ties with Israel over a deadly attack on a Gaza-bound aid convoy organized by Turkish human rights activists. On May 31, Israeli navy commandos stormed the Gaza Freedom Flotilla in international waters, killing nine Turkish activists and injuring about 50 others onboard the six-ship civilian aid fleet.

Book by Gaza victim being published
A UK publisher has started a campaign to attract funds for the publication of the photos and writings of a UK journalist who died at the hands of the Israeli military.  An Israeli sniper killed human rights campaigner and photojournalist Thomas Peter Hurndall with a headshot in April 2003 in the city of Rafah in the south of the Gaza Strip. The victim was targeted while rushing to safety Palestinian children who had been too frightened by Israeli fire to move. Independent publisher Trolley Books launched the eight-week-long fundraising initiative in late November, offering interested people the chance to buy the work, entitled The Only House Left Standing -- the Middle East Journals of Tom Hurndall in advance, the British Journal of Photography reported. The book will feature the deceased's photographs and personal writings from his diaries and poems. Following his injury, Hurndall's treatment was delayed for two hours at the border, reads his obituary published in the British daily The Guardian.
