Alghamdulilah and Shukran for all the duah's regarding our petition to The Mayor. The meeting between the Thornton Islamic Society and Patricia de Lille for Cape Town was a successful one. The Mayor has committed to us receiving a long term lease and lived up to the philosophy of Cape Town being a Uni City. We would like to thank you all for your signatures, support and Duah's. We are looking forward to a long and prosperous relationship with all residents of Thornton.
Grant the Thornton Islamic Society a long term lease on ERF 1102 or allow for them to purchase the Erf
The Thornton Islamic Society currently does not have a permanent place of worship and have been in negotiations with the City for years now to no avail. Yesterday they launched an online petition at: https://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/patricia-de-lille-grant-the-thornton-islamic-society-a-long-term-lease-on-erf-1102-or-allow-for-them-to-purchase-the-erf
Please can we ask that you sign our the petition and also share this petition with your friends and family; they do not have to live in Thornton. The more people we make aware of our plight, the more the City is forced to take note and act.
The Thornton Islamic Society (TIS) has been leasing the property (Erf 1102) from the City for almost 13 years. This lease has been run on a month to month basis since about 2007 and throughout this period, TIS has been trying to either purchase the land or have the city commit to a long term lease.
Date: Sunday 13th November 2011
Venue: Thornton Islamic Society
In 2010 the Muslim Hands Worldwide Qurbani Service benefited hundreds of thousands of people in over 40 of the world's poorest countries. This year, with your support, we want to reach even more people and share the joy this coming Eid al-Adha insha'Allah.
Muslim Hands has been carrying out qurbanis on behalf of the Muslim community for 15 years. Here are just some of the reasons why you should offer your qurbani through Muslim Hands.
The first ten days of Zul Hijjah are among the most magnificent days in Islamic calendar. The Messenger of Allah, Sallallaahu Alayhi Wa Sallam said: "There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days."(Bukhari)
'Udhiya' is an Arabic word meaning "blood sacrifice", and 'Qurbani' is an Urdu and Persian word derived from the Arabic word "Qurban" which literally means an act performed to seek Allah's pleasure. It is technically used for the sacrifice of an animal slaughtered for the sake of Allah.
It is obligatory for every sane, matured Muslim who has the financial means to perform Hajj once in a lifetime unless there is some physical disability. Women need to be accompanied by a Mehram.
