Latest News & Updates for Masjids / Islamic Centres in South Africa
Some 272km outside of Cape Town - a distance covered in a leisurely three hour drive along the N2 - Muslims will find a new place to stop in the rural town of Heidelberg. After Caledon with its functional jamat-khana and Bredasdorpwhere a new mosque is in the process of being built, this is the next town where Muslims will find a mosque, one which is due to be opened formally on Sunday.
According to Siraj Logday, owner of the family owned chain of pet stores, Pet Adventure, the new Masjidul Yunus at 33 Hoog Street in Heidelberg was named for his grandfather Yunus Logday and was purchased on auction. "It used to be a community hall that belonged to the Old Apostolic Church and is about 100 years old. Since then, with the help of my family and some sponsors, we have spent quite a bit to renovate the building, while keeping its historic character," he told VOC on Friday.
Habibia Soofie Saheb Masjid acknowledges the community service of a son of the institution, Imam Muhammad Yusuf Purkar. He served the Masjid for many years and he was extremely dedicated in what he did. He leaves behind his wife, 2 sons, 1 daughter and 2 brothers. May Allah, The Most High, place Noor in his grave and grant him a high abode in Paradise. We appeal to everyone to remember him in your du`aas.

A cardinal principle in the equation of human relationships is that all members of every human community should learn to care deeply about themselves and about other members of the community, as well as to act in ways that are supportive of the vital interests of all. Wise ones have said that among the most important ingredients in the formula for a successful and fulfilling life is knowing how to get along with people.

It is with grave concern that we have to bring to your attention a serious verbal attack on CMRM made during the jumuah pre-khutbah lecture by Shaykh Sulayman Abdullah Salaamah at Masjidus Sunni, Kromboom Mosque, on Friday 9 December 2011. Amongst other things, the Shaykh alleged that CMRM rejects all ahadith, that its congregants are 'soldiers of shaytaan' and that CMRM must be destroyed.
The allegations against CMRM amounts to hate speech and incitement to violence. Consequently, a letter from the CMRM Board was hand delivered on Sunday 11 December 2011 to the Chairperson of the Kromboom Mosque Committee.
Since yesterday, the Goodwood Masjid Silat program has had a huge response Alhamdulillah. We now have 25 young warriors (male & female) registered for the program. Parents were given a short briefing about the program, and were urged to bring their kids on time for silat training, as this would teach them discipline.
For those in the Mitchels Plain Area, we will follow the same program starting the 12th Dec until 6th January 2012. Training will take place mon-fri at Colorado Park Masjid between 1:30 - 3:30. Registration will take place on sunday 4th Dec between 1:30 - 3PM.
On behalf of the Habibia Soofie Saheb Masjid - Cape Town, we extend a Muharram Mubarak to one and all.
