The courses in Islamic Studies at UCT are divided into:
- Classical and contemporary Islamic thought
- Modern issues in culture and identity
Particular courses envisaged are: Studies in the Qur'an, Islamic spirituality, Islam and gender, Muslim societies and Islam in Africa. The Centre for Contemporary Islam (CCI) is also locate at UCT

Students are invited to join a research project dedicated to an in-depth and comparative study of Muslim Publics in Africa. Successful candidates will be expected to conduct research in South Africa, Tanzania or Ghana. (Closing Date 15 November 2011)
