The festive season is quickly approaching and whilst for many, this symbolises a holy and spiritual time of the year, we are also aware that it is a time in which many fall prey to the various ubiquitous vices within modern society.

In an attempt to safeguard and contribute to the progression of our community, Dar al-Mahamid will, for the 2nd year running, host our annual Summer Festival.

The 2011 Summer Festival will be hosted in Retreat at both Masjid al-Munowar and the adjacent Allenby Drive Sports Field, from Friday 30th of December to Sunday, 1st of January2012.

The Parable of the Pear Tree

Once upon a time, there was a man who had four sons.  He wanted each of them to learn how to judge things carefully, so he sent each of his sons on a quest to observe a pear tree in a distant land.  He sent his eldest son in Winter, the second in Spring, the third in Summer, and the youngest in Autumn.

Upon their return, he called them all together and asked them what they had seen.

Let's keep all our Hujjaaj in mind over these holy days during which they are in the process of completing their Hajj. Let our duas be with them while they on Arafaat and let's sincerely hope they won't forget us in their duas.  We futher ask Allah Almighty to grant them all a Hajj Maqbul and Majrur and a safe return to their families.  Let's furthermore use this opportunity to strive together towards unifying the Ummah tul Islam.

We all need small doses of fear to keep us motivated,to give us focus,to create a balance in our lives.The fear of ending up in prison reminds us to obey the law,the fear of wasting our lives leads us to achieve more every single day.The scary thing about fear is that we usually give it more credit than it deserves. This occurs when we allow our fears to control our lives,to dictate the limits to which we can progress & eventually to stop us from truly living.

Sa'di mentions a story in his Bustaan which gives us many guidelines on becoming exemplary human-beings. The episode hereunder discusses the quality of selflessness & sacrifice by a wealthy king. 

Abdul Aziz had a pearl of great beauty and value set in a ring. Shortly thereafter, a severe drought occurred in the land, causing distress among the people. Moved by compassion, the king ordered the pearl to be sold and the money that it fetched to be given to the poor.

Hadhrat 'Ataa' bin Abi Ribaah, (Radhiyallaho anho) said that Rasulullah (SallAllaho alaihi wasallam) is reported to have said, "Whoever reads surah Yaaseen in the beginning of the day, all his needs for that day are fulfilled" Many merits of surah Yaseen are mentioned in ahadith.
