Benoni Muslim School girl bags eight distinctions

The desire to please her parents motivated Zainab Motala (18) to get eight distinctions in her matric results. The Benoni Muslim School learner scored distinctions in English first language, Afrikaans additional home language, Arabic, mathematics, accounting, life sciences, physical science and life orientation.

DI aid mission continues

As part of a continuing aid mission into the Horn of Africa, Darul Islam Masjid imam and school principal, Sheikh Irfaan Abrahams, departed for Dubai on Friday evening to purchase much needed supplies for the famine stricken region. The alim spearheaded the Darul Islam Zakah Fund relief team into Somalia in October, and since then, has started numerous projects. Amongst these initiatives are a feeding scheme, building of a masjid as well as providing the destitute with a doctor to assist the community.

Somalis continue to live under horrific circumstances as they endure strife and hardship after the worst drought in 60 years engulfed the region. That is according to Darul Islam principal and alim, Sheik Irfaan Abrahams, speaking to VOC on Friday evening whilst still in Somalia where his 12 man delegation has delivered R1 million in aid on behalf of the Cape Town community.

All Gr 1-3 learners at Al-Falaah College will continue their reading programme for September. Learners are encouraged to read books from the school library that are age-appropriate. The school librarian will assist learners in choosing books. Target for the month of September:

  • Gr 1—10(books)

  • Gr 2—15(books)

  • Gr 3—20(books)

Those learners who achieve the target will receive a free kiddies pizza from Caminettos.

The new ‘State of the Art’ Indoor Sports Centre at Al-Falaah College is now open to  Parents, Learners and the Community.  The Centre offers Sports enthusiasts a
  • 5-a-side Astro Turf Soccer field 
  • A Cricket net with a bowling machine 
  • An Action Cricket Net 
  • Table Tennis tables 
The entire facility is air-conditioned and players also have use of the exclusive change
