    About IPSA

The history of Education throughout the world is the history of the development of society.

Southern Africa is a very different place ten years after the installation of a democracy in South Africa. Old practices are disappearing into the sunset and possibilities dawning on the new horizon, and particularly so for the Muslim community of the new South Africa.

The new South Africa brings hope and opportunity for the Muslim community. We are entering a time of our history when the Muslim community will have to wake up to the responsibilities as well as the opportunities that this particular era brings forth. For more than 300 years we have been shackled and oppressed. Our forefathers came here in banishment and exile, restricted severely from even practicing their religion. Today, we are relatively free and we have to respect our legacy by utilizing this freedom with responsibility and vision. Institution building is a method to ensure that a community survives and thrives.

The establishment of the International Peace College South Africa, IPSA is a bold move to ensure that our heritage and our legacy here on the Southern tip of Africa survives and thrives. Educational institutions such as ICOSA and DAII have pioneered Islamic higher education on a tertiary level for the past 15 years independently, separately and competitively.

The merging of the two institutions challenged a pervasive myth of the need for separateness and the need to keep separate the practice of ideological differences within the Muslim community in separate space. Many institutional forms were duplicated, for example, two Islamic leadership institutions, two Eids, two radio stations.

The merger was a product of time and an opportunity of history. With the gathering of momentum, more institutions joined the movement; Jam Eyyatul Qurra, specializing in Hifz training, the Mintin School of Development Studies, specializing in social development training and the Shanaaz Parker Culinary Academy, specializing in the services and catering industry.
