The Promise and Task
To create communities that are functional is difficult. Furthermore to create communities that are ethical, accountable and transparent is even more difficult. This added layer of complexity to create communities that are ethical, accountable and transparent requires an imagination that is sound and cherishes values. In our case it is the values of Islam. The imagination allows us to grasp the history of the community and our own abilities to build this community that are ethical, accountable and transparent. The imagination also allows us to understand the relations between the history and our own abilities within our society.
Heidelberg mosque opens
Some 272km outside of Cape Town - a distance covered in a leisurely three hour drive along the N2 - Muslims will find a new place to stop in the rural town of Heidelberg. After Caledon with its functional jamat-khana and Bredasdorpwhere a new mosque is in the process of being built, this is the next town where Muslims will find a mosque, one which is due to be opened formally on Sunday.
According to Siraj Logday, owner of the family owned chain of pet stores, Pet Adventure, the new Masjidul Yunus at 33 Hoog Street in Heidelberg was named for his grandfather Yunus Logday and was purchased on auction. "It used to be a community hall that belonged to the Old Apostolic Church and is about 100 years old. Since then, with the help of my family and some sponsors, we have spent quite a bit to renovate the building, while keeping its historic character," he told VOC on Friday.

Khutbah by Shaykh Sadullah Khan
A cardinal principle in the equation of human relationships is that all members of every human community should learn to care deeply about themselves and about other members of the community, as well as to act in ways that are supportive of the vital interests of all. Wise ones have said that among the most important ingredients in the formula for a successful and fulfilling life is knowing how to get along with people.

Naseeha: Deliberate before making any worldly commitments
Live your life in this world with moderation and always deliberate before making any commitment. In short, don’t bite off more than you can chew. Hasan al-Basri (Rahimahullah) said: “Beware of your commitments that you make in this world, for the world has a way of consuming a person. A person makes a commitment to one thing and he finds himself involved in ten other commitments. (Hilyatul Awilya, Vol:2, Pg: 153)
